Self Service

Self service nowadays is a way of life. But during the civil rights era, colored people were paid minimum wages to serve white businesses across the nation. Today we take at look at a local gas station in Mexia, Texas where Charlie Demus worked. He was a family man whom had worked at the gas station for 5 months making .25$/hr to distribute gas to local white residents of East Mexia. Early July 4th 1952 he came into work and asked for a raise but the Store Manager said No and told him to get back to work or be fired. Charlie was furious because he worked extremely long hours and this was the 1st time he ever asked for a raise. So Charlie walked to his assigned area and sat in a chair as the 1st customer rolled up for service. The conversation went like this:
Customer: Good Morning Lad. Could you please quickly pump 10$ of gas so that I can make it to an important business meeting.
Charlie : Man phuck you.. DO IT YO DAMN SELF!!!!!
Needless to say Charlie was jobless thereafter but word of this spread throughout the South. Black workers refused to service white customers for the hourly rate they were given. This forced gas stations to invoke a full service policy throughout the Southern region. His legacy led to many similar cases around the nation such as Wilma Williams, who in 1989 checked her own groceries out at the check out line because the people in front of her was taking too long which initiated self-check out lines. And Clarence Gillum who in 1983 told his local cable company that their installation fees were too high so "just send me the manual and I'll do it my damn self"........

The Special Ed Racist

I work for the Special Ed department so I see alot of extraordinary students stroll through. Well today I came across a new student that was ADD,HGH, and most of all CRAZY. He is a 10th grader so I am responsible for monitoring him throughout the summer school program. Well I pulled him out of class to see how he was doing and every answer he gave, he would say "boy" before he started. I asked him why he keeps calling me boy. He said "because my daddy calls yall boys". I said "who?".. He said black people. He then said "I'm not supposed to talk to you boys because of that boy in the White House". Now I'm thinking to myself, I know he cant spell your name unless he looks down at his wristband", but this is some ignorant shit. So I,being the thoughtful man that I am, taught him some new phrases to tell his dad when he got home that evening. I taught him how to say " yo pops whats up".. I taught him how to do the stanky leg dance and I told him to watch the Boondocks later this evening during his family time.. I wonder if I will have a job tomorrow......hmmmmm

Return/Refund Policy

People have a general misinterpretation of how refunds were started. Well to my surprise one of my distant relatives in the 1600's started this theory on return for your product. It all started in the West African Country of the Ivory Coast in 1612. Nicholas Means(Demus) and twin brother Niccoli Means (Demus) were part of the slave trade in West Africa. Both men were bought by a white slavemaster who told them that their was a better life in the New World. One of great expansion and vast ecomnomic and financial growth. Nicholas was all for it as he was seeking new life but Niccoli was less enthused about the thought of working for the white man. Niccoli told Nicholas when they boarded the Mayflower," Man when I get to this New World , its on and poppin". Nicholas warned his brother that these people are looking for hard workers and probably wouldnt tolerate such behavior but Niccoli shrugged him off.. As they boarded the ship Nicholas once again said that because they were together that Niccoli would have to pull his own weight over there. Again Niccoli rebuffed him and said it wont be a problem. As the ship sailed the ocean headed for the New World , Niccoli leaned over to Nicholas and said quietly "Man when we get to America , I aint doing a damn thang.I just wanna get paid". Niccoli slowly stood up and whispered what his brother said, to the slave master who purchased them. In mid route , the ship made a u-turn and returned to the docks where they boarded. Niccoli was defiantly escorted off and given back the money that the slave master purchased him for. Niccoli feeling embarassed, betrayed, and stupid was never heard from again. But his story started a movement of returning products that wasnt up to par in Europe and into the New World. So next time you return something, think of how Niccoli would feel and ask yourself if its really worth the trouble ....

Family History-Elwood Livingston

My 1st blog will let you understand where I get my unique sense of humor and how it intertwines with everyday life..I come from a long line of preachers and teachers but my forefathers also were responsible for a lot of concepts that have come to fruition today.I would like to tell you about how my great great grandfather helped change restaurant service as we know it. Elwood Livingston was a common negro living in Mexia, Texas during the civil rights movement . You know the story. Well Elwood came into some money and decided to open a burger shack. He was making so much money from local residents that he decided to build the west side the building into a dining area due to overcrowdiness. Well one night , two drunk white supremist decided that they would try to destroy what this business minded black guy had built and rammed their truck through the under constructed dining area. Elwood came to work the following morning and was devasted. He feared that because of this it could take months to rebuild and he would lose his customers. As he walked outside he noticed , a line had formed of customers waiting to be served. Elwood thought for a minute and told all customers with vehicles to come to the side of the building that was wiped out. He said they could order to go plates and be on their way. Because of this he decided to leave this previously destroyed area of the building open and call it the drive-thru.. Word of this new business idea spread throughout the South and black businessmen constructed their food shacks with one side incomplete. Therefore Elwood Livingston became a Southern hero and was credited with starting the Drive-Thru..
